Celebration of Life-Tree Planting Ceremony
We recently coordinated a tree planting ceremony for a very special woman. She enjoyed nature very much and had a place close to her heart with a labyrinth where she spent a lot of time while she was alive. In the center of the labyrinth was a large pepper tree with a bench underneath where she would often reflect. We suggested that we perform a tree planting ceremony in her memory where she can be remembered by family and friends for years to come in a place where she found peace and serenity.
The guests gathered at the entrance of the labyrinth where the officiant performed a memorial ceremony in Kathryn’s honor. We then instructed the guests to go over to the baby pepper tree that would be planted in her memory. Each guest took a biodegradable post it note and wrote their favorite memory or special goodbye to Kathryn. They then folded it up and took a handful of rose petals (to represent love) and put them both with the baby tree followed by putting a hand shovel full of dirt in the hole. Once every guest had the chance to say their goodbye’s the officiant said a few words and a final prayer to close the ceremony. The guests then went to the celebration of life reception.
